Folders group work you want to keep together. They are yours and private, like everything else in your library.
You do not need any for the first week. Start making them when scrolling to find something has started to annoy you — that is the honest signal.
Making one
Create a folder from the folder area beside the gallery, and give it a name. It then appears as a view: click it and the gallery shows only what is in it.
Putting things in
Three ways, all doing the same thing:
- Drag an item onto the folder
- Open an item and use its move-to-folder menu — available from the full-size view as well as the grid. The folder an item is already in is marked, so you can see where it lives without closing the menu
- Select several and move them together — the fastest way to file a batch
Names that still make sense in six months
Name folders after projects and jobs, not media types:
| Works | Does not |
|---|---|
| Bakery rebrand | Images |
| Client — Marchetti | Good ones |
| Book cover attempts | Stuff |
| Product shots — autumn range | New folder |
You will search for the job, not the file type. The gallery already filters by type on its own — a folder called “Videos” duplicates a view that exists.
An item lives in one folder
Moving something into a folder takes it out of whichever folder it was in. There is one copy of each item and the folder says where it sits.
It still appears in Recent, in Generated, and in Favorites if it is starred. Those are filters over everything you own; the folder is where the item actually lives.
Because there is only ever one copy, favouriting is the right tool when something belongs to two projects: file it in the more important one and star it so it is quick to reach.
Renaming and deleting
Rename a folder at any time; nothing inside is affected.
Deleting a folder does not delete what is in it. The items return to your library unfiled. This is deliberate — a mis-click on a folder should not destroy a project’s worth of work.
To delete the contents as well, open the folder, select everything and delete that first. See downloading and deleting.
A structure that holds up
For most people, one level is enough:

Experiments
Deep nesting looks tidy and rarely survives contact with a busy week. If you are unsure where something goes, it goes in the project folder — and if there is no project, it probably does not need filing at all.
