You need an account to make anything.
Signing up
Choose Sign up, then either:
- Continue with an existing account — Google, or another provider offered on the sign-in screen. Nothing new to remember, and there is no password for anyone to steal.
- Use an email address and password — if you would rather not connect another account.
Either way it takes under a minute.
Confirming your email
If you signed up with an email address, a confirmation email arrives within a minute or two. Open it and follow the link.
Until you confirm, parts of the account stay locked. That is deliberate: an unconfirmed address might belong to someone else, might have a typo in it, and cannot be used to get you back in if you forget your password.
If the email has not arrived:
- Check the spam or junk folder. It is there more often than not.
- Wait two minutes — mail is sometimes delayed, and requesting another one invalidates the first, which makes things worse if the first then arrives.
- Ask for a new one from the banner in the app.
- If nothing arrives after that, the address may have a typo in it. Correct it in your account settings and a fresh email is sent.
Choosing a username
You get a username automatically when you sign up. It looks machine-generated because it is, and you can change it to something you like.
A short list of names is reserved and cannot be taken.
Signing in later
Use the same method you signed up with. If you signed up with Google and then try an email and password, there is no password on the account to match — sign in the original way instead. The sign-in screen remembers which method you used last and shows it first.
Too many attempts
Repeated failed sign-ins are rate limited, and so are repeated failed two-step codes. When that happens you are told how long to wait rather than being left guessing, and the countdown clears itself — you do not need to reload or try a different browser.
The limit is per account, so someone else failing to sign in does not lock you out.
Forgotten password
Choose Forgot password and follow the link in the email. The link expires, so ask for a new one rather than reusing an old email.
If you never set a password because you signed up through Google, there is nothing to reset. Sign in with Google.
Two-step sign-in
You can require a second step — a code from an app on your phone — every time you sign in. It is off by default and worth turning on. See keeping your account secure.
If you cannot get in at all
Contact support from the email address on the account if you can. It is the fastest way for someone to confirm the account is yours.
